Groundcover. Easily propagated from cuttings.
Shade or sun. Flowers throughout the year.
Attracts insects and birds. Many butterfly caterpillars
feed on Barleria (see Acanthaceae butterflies)

Possibly a larval foodplant to:

  • Junonia orithya – Eyed Pansy
  • Junonia natalica – Natal Pansy
  • Catacroptera cloanthe – Pirate
